President’s Night - Underwater Photography by David Keep

Last year we enjoyed David Keep’s fascinating talk ‘Underwater 1’ describing his experiences learning to operate a camera underwater and be at one with aquatic creatures.  His is honouring us this year for President’s Night at our first ‘in person’ meeting for over 18 months at New Hall, Emmanuel Church, Cambridge Road,

David is a member of Rolls Royce Camera Club in Derby and says, ‘I’m passionate about all forms of photography & confess to spending far too much time doing it! However, I’d describe myself as an image maker not a photographer as I enjoy the post-processing as much as I do taking the photo.’ His website has many links to his videos – Click Here

Back to the Hall

We have surveyed our membership and the majority responded that they would like to attend meetings at the New Hall, Emmanuel.  Our first meeting will be President’s Night on 20th September 2021.

Much thought has gone into making the venue safe and, in addition to measures covered in our Risk Assessment, the Council have agreed that we would like people to wear masks whilst moving around the venue.

Recognising some people may be unable to attend meetings in person we will zoom broadcast meetings from the hall where we have speakers or competitions.  For the season 2021/2022 all our speakers (except one early in 2022) and judges will be live in the hall.

We have a very exciting programme this year and are looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.  Membership subscription have returned to 2019/2020 rates and visitors are always welcome.

Southport Photographic Society

The society was founded in 1890, making it one of the oldest photographic societies in the the country. It is also one of the best-known, thanks to our Annual National Open Exhibition which attracts entries from the UK’s leading photographers. In October we will be celebrating our 130th Anniversary.

Yet despite the society’s age and fame, SPS is simply a diverse group of photographers with skill levels ranging from beginner to experienced, who meet to chat and share knowledge every Monday from September to April.

Our program includes a variety of photographic talks and presentations as well as competition nights for new and advanced photographers.

If you are interested in photography, want to learn more about this fascinating activity and/or want to meet like-minded people why not join us? Visitors are always welcome and who knows where one visit might take you, we are looking forward to meeting you.
